Christmas
The traditional Christmas poinsettia and other seasonal flowers. Euphorbia Pulcherrima, the scientific name for poinsettia, is native to Mexico, where the climate gives the leaves their characteristic deep red colour, so redolent of Christmas.
Dogwood, Viburnum, Winter Jasmine, Camellia, Cyclamen and Primula Obconica make excellent gifts.
Hellebore, the Christmas Rose, produces beautiful pink flowers, and unlike the poinsettia it can tolerate low temperatures, and doesn’t take up much space. Legend has it that a poor young girl was on her way to visit the Grotto of the Nativity when she realized that she had not brought a gift for the Virgin Mary, causing her to cry. Christmas Roses blossomed where her tears fell on the snow, and she brought them as her gift.
